sactochris Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I'm going to be in San Francisco in March and was wondering what the Occidental was like. I have heard mixed reviews about the place. Give me the low down on the joint. I know some of you folks hang out there.
Yoruba Hacker Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Not an SF guy, but have been going there when in SF since the Millenium. Very small, and more of a neighborhood bar, in my experience, but a good crew of regulars, and an overal nice place to burn one when in town. Typically a central meeting point for cigar and scotch events in SF (e.g. Whiskeys of the World, etc.). If you're looking for more of a "scene" then go to 850 Montgomery. Outdoor smoking venue with hot chicks and good music. But not as much of a proper cigar club. No complaints though. Did I mention hot chicks?
Lotusguy Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Frequent guest there. Small place and the bartenders are usually drunk by the time I get there LOL. It's a hoot and almost every time I meet interesting people.
Nino Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Some pics from my last visit at the Occidental, I liked the place, the bar and the experience. Very relaxed, more like a neighbourhood bar. Interesting crowd. Pity not more of these places around. A memorable cigar I smoked in SF was at the carrier USS Hornet : http://www.flyingcigar.de/flying_cigars/2008_04_san_francisco_zigarre_auf_dem_carrier_uss_hornet.php Nino
