bolivr Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Hi Guys, I have tried to search the answer to this one on the web without success. I hope I have not put my foot in it. I have booked flights Melbourne to LA, a few days later continue on to Cuba. I have already booked flights LAX to HAV via MEX. The first leg LAX to MEX is with Aeromexico, then MEX to HAV is on Cubana. Return flights. Question is if anyone in Aus has done this was it possible to check luggage right through LAX to HAV? On the way there we have time to get luggage from Aeromexico and check in to Cubana but the return trip has a tight transit. Second question, planning to get the Cuban tourist card when in Mexico city airport. This seems to be commonly done if Australian brothers could also confirm this is ok. Any expertise would be much appreciated, thanks Mike
rckymtn22 Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 My guess is you will not be able to check the luggage straight through because of switching airlines. Not sure though, maybe if they codeshare. My experience flying to cuba is you will get the card on the flight to Cuba and fill it before you land.
El Presidente Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 My experience has been you cannot check your luggage straight through. They may tell you you can....but it will be on the carousel in Mexico. Same coming out of Cuba. They will say it is checked through all the way to Australia. You explain that you will have to pick it up and check in again at LAX....they will argue no. It really doesn't matter as it will be on the carousel in Mexico
bolivr Posted January 17, 2012 Author Posted January 17, 2012 LOL, thanks Pres, thanks guys, the mental image of my luggage on that carousel has sealed it. Since there is more time on the way over I will do a dummy run as practice for the return. It's all an adventure anyway...
NJP Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Let us know how you go. I'm trying to lock in some time in May to go in between projects. The ball and chain will give me Cuba if I give her Peru so we are going to bounce from Santiago up. I have no idea if this is the hard way to do Cuba from Australia but time will tell. Have a ball mate and any tips referring to the Aussie angle will be appreciated. Cheers Nic.
