dicko Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Repost from FOH daily smoke, bit more detail, feel guilty about no reviews in months!! I had a couple of close friends over to my humble deck last night- I had ... Punch coronations (? date) - simple tubo petit corona, rough looking wrapper, dusty aroma at cold. some pine needle and earthy tobacco, medium bodied. 84 Bolivar coronas extra (2010)- nice light wrapper, slight barnyard and sweetish earth aroma at cold I've come to love in bolivars. opened with honey and vanilla, eased into white pepper and tobacco, slight menthol flavour last 3rd. medium bodied on palate but some strength through the nose. 89/90 Bolivar coronas junior (2007) - another dud from a dud box, some simple tobacco and sweet earth characteristics. 81 We had a couple of good wines too- an Argentinain Malbec 2007 (Terraza ?) - violets and plum, juicy berries and some dusty tannins. 92 and an Australian Barossa Valley Shiraz (Pepperjack) - black pepper and red berries, tasty but uncomplex. 89/90 The Malbec was the better wine but the shiraz pehaps matched better with the cigars, slightly fuller bodied. Good night! (except when my mate asked for my candid views on his new girlfriend haha)
Wil Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Thanks for the review - sorry to hear your box of BCJ is sub par. I've found them to be really good lately. Have seen some Argentinian malbecs at my local wine store - will have to grab a bottle and give it a try with a cigar.
