novasurf Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 A good friend of mine is off to Sydney Aus with her husband in 2 weeks. She's compiled a list of places she's planning to hit. I just copied and pasted her email here. Can those of you who are in the area comment on any of these spots? Feel free to make any recs. Sadly, she doesn't smoke cigars. She's is truly a remarkable woman. Here goes: norm...if you can help, i'm looking for the best sydney has to offer! here's my list: artisan chocolate: belle fleur, kimberly artisan bread: infinity sourdough, sonoma woodfired baking, victoire, st. honore sourdough, bourke st. bakery certified neapolitan pizza: pizza mario yoga: acharya yoga, samadhi bliss, city apothecary, lifesource, yoga moves, lotus. this will be interesting, because sydney has 80 yoga studios -- 320 classes a day! this is much more than nyc,w hich i think has only about 200 classes a day. coffee: campos, toby's, michel's patisseries, bar cupola, sugarcube, spring espresso, bar coluzzi, vinyl lounger, and hazel de los reyes' roastery, when i can find out its exact address! some of these places are probably more about atmosphere than the brew, but i'm very interested in their coffee culture, so that will be good too. Any light that you lot can share is appreciated!!! Norman
jay8354 Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 Judging from the looks of the email, seems like she already has done her research and knows where she wants to go. All I can do is add some places that are of one of the interest to what she is looking for. Chocolate: Lindt Store in Pitt Street near Martin Place, Haighs in Strand Arcade in Pitt Street Mall, Max Brenner. As for the rest, I can't really help since not sure where they are located. My advise for her is to ask the hotel or go to internet and access the information from either yellowpages.com.au or whereis.com.au. Sorry if I can't be of more help. » » Here goes: » » norm...if you can help, i'm looking for the best sydney has to offer! » » here's my list: » » artisan chocolate: belle fleur, kimberly » » artisan bread: infinity sourdough, sonoma woodfired baking, victoire, st. » honore sourdough, bourke st. bakery » » certified neapolitan pizza: pizza mario » » yoga: acharya yoga, samadhi bliss, city apothecary, lifesource, yoga » moves, lotus. this will be interesting, because sydney has 80 yoga studios » -- 320 classes a day! this is much more than nyc,w hich i think has only » about 200 classes a day. » » coffee: campos, toby's, michel's patisseries, bar cupola, sugarcube, » spring espresso, bar coluzzi, vinyl lounger, and hazel de los reyes' » roastery, when i can find out its exact address! some of these places are » probably more about atmosphere than the brew, but i'm very interested in » their coffee culture, so that will be good too. » » Any light that you lot can share is appreciated!!! » » Norman
habanablue Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 Sorry Nova, can't help but already sounds like your mate knows more about Sydney than I do!!! if she is into coffee there is this new American chain popping in every street corner...:-D sorry can't be of more help!
Ben Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 From the look of that list I reckon she'd prefer Melbourne.
John Conomos Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Campos coffee is very fine and you can check out the suburb of Newtown while you`re there, nice bars, clothes, food etc a bit *** though ..not that there`s anything wrong with that!! For Pizza, try Arthurs on oxford st Paddington..one of the best, plus Paddo is another nice place to hang out and has very interesting markets on Saturdays. JC »
John Conomos Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 One more thing...catch a ferry from Circular Quay to Watsons Bay,have a beer and meal at Doyles pub...not expensive and one of the best hangouts in Sydney.
novasurf Posted November 28, 2005 Author Posted November 28, 2005 Thanks John. I sent her your suggestions. Keep 'em coming.
