Hi

I would like to ask the FOH community on how they manage their better halves when it comes to purchasing Big Boy's Toys.

This is due to the fact that I have my eyes on a poker table. Will need to negotiate the price down a little more but that is not the issue.

The real issue is trying to get my lovely wife to agree.

She is usually very good in this sense (puts up with most of it). However, this time she is putting her foot down. I blame it on her being pregnant with our number 2.

I have manage to "turn" her thinking from the price to more of a space issue. She is refusing now due to the lack of space in the house. She is also asking how many times am I going to use it. I just smile as a reply.

So how does our esteem members explain their purchases (big ones that you know you just can't hide) to their partners?

I would love to hear from El Prez and Ellie on their excuses.

Just buy it but don't tell her. When it arrives and Yen asks you where did it come from, just tell her, "Oh that? Fuzz is letting me borrow his".

When she later asks why is it still here after the poker night has long passed tell her, "Fuzz gave it to me as he has no room to store it any more".

Devious, underhanded, creative.

In short, perfect.

Perhaps for maximum effect the table arrives when she is still in hospital assuming no plans for a home birth?

Fuzz is not to far off the mark. Cousin had his first kid, i offered to mind his table for the first few years until his allowed to come out and play again. Wife will forget its a loaner after a few years... Got the round table that folds away so its minimal storage space required.

I would imagine the "space" issue is just a more collective way of arguing the "cost" issue. Here are my suggestions, all of which have worked in the past.

1) Buy it, and say you were able to find it used on craigslist for half the price.

2) find something you have worth value, (I use Texas Rangers Season Tickets) and say you found a guy that was selling one that was willing to trade for some Ranger Games (insert your trade here), but of course you never trade.

3) Buy it and have it shipped to one of your best buds, and have him give it to you as a gift from him.

4) Buy it and say you used rewards points for it from your credit card.

Put a pair of Manolo Blahniks or a Louis Vuitton bag on top and she won't even notice the table! :D
