aes8 Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Yes, there are boxes of CC and NC in my humidors. My boxes are closed and put into thermoelectric fridges which are set at 15 degrees Celcius (59 F) I am using heartfelt beads and Silica (clear, unscented kitty litter)that keeps RH at about 68%. I'm at a loss then. That's a little higher RH then I like to use but it still should not have been a problem.
aavkk Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 I'm not in the same state as my humidor at the moment but will do an inspection when I see it over Thanksgiving. I'm not worried at all though, I use a wine cooler set to 65 degrees and I have about 7 pounds of 65% beads that keep them smoking very well. I absolutely love not worrying about them, though am looking forward to smoking from it. Otherwise when I am at home I really dont do a thorough go through every box type of inspection, I just thoroughly check the conditions when I sample smokes.
nick17 Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 I look at what i have once a month i give them a glace and just take a look at them but once a quoter i take everything out re arrange it in the humidor and see how everything is doing
sepp Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Random inspections while playing rounds of "cooler tetris"!
TonyV Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Every 6 months,or until i start reading threads like this or ones about beetles.
cigaraholic Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 I'm a sealer, I inspect them when they arrive and that's it.
CanuckSARTech Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Every 6 months,or until i start reading threads like this or ones about beetles. About the same thing here. And this thread got me checking this past weekend, too!!! Shhhhhhhhhh...everyone is sleeping. LOL.
Plato Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 for those of you who have a large inventory in your humidor that remain in the original boxes the sticks come in or even if you take them out and place in your own trays. how often do you inspect your cigars or don't you? inspecting by opening each box to check the contents for mold, bugs, plume or anything else? i'm curious if that would be a normal process. I check maybe every couple months and curious if that's overkill. i don't have a very large inventory but only a few boxes i need to open. I check my stuff about every two weeks, more or less, and typically its on a lazy Sunday afternoon. It is very relaxing to me to go through all of my stash and peek around for mold, plume, bugs, and whatever else. When I first started building up a collection, I would commonly lose a stick and then have it reappear months later, like some sort of miracle. Needless to say, it used to be very unorganized. But now I take pride in keeping my humidors neat and tidy so its easier to locate specific sticks. And I haven't misplaced any sticks in a while. Also, I've been lucky enough to have never had any problems with mold or bugs ::knock on wood:: I should actually start being more careful with the boxes I get in the mail. I have never frozen them just to be safe. Usually because I am so anxious to start smoking them. Mike
bolivr Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 I select and check a box at random every month or so. Twice a year I pull out and inspect every box. . +1
