MMA type mixed martial arts and its ever growing popularity only speaks to the value of perseverance. Initially, it was condemned when it first came out because there were few rules and lots of blood. Then the Fertitta/Frazetta/Fer...aw shucks, I can't call their proper names (you who are MMA junkies will know) brothers teamed up with Dana White who persevered through the hard times of it, and were instrumental in adhering to more civilized rules, and the rest is history. I used to be a great boxing fan. Not anymore. It puts me to sleep now as I've been spoiled by the more dynamic and exciting world of mixed martial arts. "Bully Beatdown" hosted by Jason "Mayhem" Miller has me absolutely addicted to it! For whatever message it might convey, there is something orgasmically satisfying in watching a physical bully get his (or her) comeuppance...similar to that scene in "Shawshank Redemption" when Boggs returned to his cell after attacking Andy - what lovely, lovely satisfying bliss!!:daydream:

Good ufc event last night overall. Frankie Edgar with the great stoppage, and Joe lauzon also destroyed Melvin Guillard. I won a bit of cash betting, but not a lot, but overall a great card!

MMA is . . . OK. I watch some of the bigger fights. But boxing is more to my taste. For me MMA is too wild and chaotic and unpredictable and anything-can-happen-ish :P . In a way, the lack of strictures results in a lack of form. This is a poor analogy, but imagine a relaxation of the rules of your favourite sport or game - to the point of complete bedlam! MMA seems something like that to me. The security of knowing - save some fluke - that the all-around better man will win is comforting to me - the sort of security one finds in a more specialised sport. But with MMA . . .

Just my two insignificant coppers, of course.

That's an understandable viewpoint. To each his own. I'm a fan of mma for the exact reason you're not a big fan, I like the fact that anything can happen in mma and that it has just enough structure to feel a bit raw and unrestricted. That said, I'm not a sports fan really, I enjoy baseball and can tolerate football, but otherwise I'd rather smoke a cigar and read a book.

Great card this Saturday. Really looking forward to it.

People keep saying sonnen is a d0uche etc. The guy is just an incredible actor, and he must be better than even I thought if he's getting under so many people's skin :)

Can't wait!

I appreciate the trolling he has done to an extent. Some of it has gone a little too far, especially after the Suspension. If he had lost like Maynard in Edgar v Maynard II then I could understand the crazy grand standing. Regardless, if he thinks Silva is going to come out looking the same... he is done for. Even more so, if he comes out looking like he did against Bisping he... is double done for. Should be a great fight either way. One for the ages, regardless of who wins.
