ive been in search of that truely special smoke that most of u talk about so after a few years of smokeing and collecting many different nc cigars i stumbled across this site and decided to start buying cc's, the few that i have are, pplc, romeo julieta, trinidad, quai d'orsay , montecristo, and quintero brevas. well yesterday i went threw my humidor of nc's and at the bottom i saw a sampler pack of nc san cristobals that have been there for a few years. i took one out of the rapper and it smelled like chocolate , i was shocked cause i read most of you guys talk about the taste and smells, and all this time i had an amazing/outstanding cigar. this cigar blew the few cc's that i have smoked away by a mile. my next purchase is the cuban version of san cristobal to compare but first i haved to buy a box of the nc san cristobal...truely a special smoke..WOW !

I'm glad you enjoyed the cigar. But please, don't compare. As Shlomo said, they have nothing in common. Experience each cigar for what it is, on its own merits or lack thereof -- not if it's "Cubanesque" or not.

There are great cubans and great non cubans, smoke what you enjoy and experience what both have to offer, that's what this hobby is all about! I happen to be smoking a cuban 10 year old san cristobal right now, fantastic smoke!

Cuban and NC San Cristobal have NOTHING to do with each other, other than the name.

I'd have to disagree

They are both rolled from tabacco leaves, picked from a tabacco plant? And while you may interpret ones taste as truffles sprinkled with gold dust I may find the same one has the essence of dirt and decaying animal waste, no?

And no they are not the same cigar, they are composed of different tabacco of different blends grown in different countries under different conditions.

But we often compare the flavor and aroma of our cigars to other familiar tastes and aromas. Coffee, chocolate, barnyard ect., ect. ALL a personal experience.

I don't see the harm in comparing the likeness and difference of tabacco from different countries?

Feel free to say what you like,Mikey.

San Christobal La Puntas are a great smoke, which I would recommend.

A real sweet spice smoke.

Yes we do compare cigars and flavors and various tobaccos. But I guess I'm coming at it from a slightly different angle.

What I am trying to get at is to enjoy (or not) Cuban cigars for what they are and enjoy (or not) Nicaraguan, Dominican, etc, cigars for what they are. Let each stand on its own merit. I enjoy many non-Cuban cigars but it's my opinion that makers of non-Cuban cigars do their product a great disservice when they say, for example, "This Nicaraguan cigar is very Cuban in its taste." Instead, why not let it be a great Nicaraguan cigar on its own without the need to compare?

"Most of the guys" here compare what is comparable, cigars from a specific terroir – Cuba – in most cases.

There is no "cuban version of San Cristobal", but there is a manufacturer of NC cigars that takes advantage of a legal vacuum about a copyright issue.

And it's "break", not "brake"…

I'll add that just a week or so ago I had a San Cristóbal Muralla from '06. It was a great cigar, very rich, dark, complex flavors.

I have a full box of the '07 Muralles sleeping the good sleep. I think I'll stock up on another as this ones done...
