KarlJ Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 I just viewed a video on YouTube where some club members open up an "unopened" box of pre embargo(70 yr. Old) flor de lobeto cigars. They were all wrapped in cellophane. I googled "Flor De Lobeto" and can't find much info other than some for sale adds or auctions indicating that there are very few left in the world and requesting some decent coin. Just more curious than anything. When he opened the box I didn't expect to see cellophane, I don't think he did either. What do you all think? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzvDVXHec1k&feature=youtube_gdata_player -karl
KarlJ Posted September 13, 2011 Author Posted September 13, 2011 Guess cellophane was patented in 1912 http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cellophane
TonyV Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Check out Trevor 2118 web site.. Cuban cigar website, would have put up the link but would have to switch my browser.. it say all cuban cigars were available with cello until 1992
Trevor2118 Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Cellophane Sleeves In recent times, cellophane sleeves were only used with machine-made cigars. Until circa 1992, almost all Cuban cigars were available in cellophane sleeves. http://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/info-packaging.htm
CanuckSARTech Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Yeah, between Trevor's website, and the MRN Encyclopaedia, you should be able to find the answer. I'm at base right now, so I don't have access to my MRN book at home. The brand name doesn't ring a bell at all, but the cellophane was a very common thing for ages and ages.
rfenst Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 But for that cellophane, imagine the terrible condition one might find upon opening an unopened box of 70-year old cigars...
SCgarman Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 I have seen the video clip myself and am skeptical of the cigars. Can anybody confirm these sticks as either genuine or bogus?
thechenman Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 After 70 years, that must be some seriously yellowed cellophane.
Orion21 Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 I know some guys who own pre-embargo sticks and they came in cello.
Tyemv Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 After 70 years, that must be some seriously yellowed cellophane. [/quote I agree. Some of my aged cigars in cellophane have a hint of yellowed color.
