CaptainQuintero Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 May seem a bit of a silly question but all the units I am looking at dont say, not even in the specifications! Some units that I look in have a fan or two at the back while others seem a solid-sealed box inside, but I read that both types have a fan of some sort somewhere in the unit. looking at this http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/logik-lwc32b1...340966-pdt.html

Thermo electric is also called peltier. You can see if there is a picture of the back , you will see a unit bulging out of it and a filter on top of that unit. Provide a valid link and I will let you know. Also peltier or thermo electric units are usually advertised as being able to reduce 12 degrees of the room temp, that is a dead giveaway.
CaptainQuintero Posted May 29, 2011 Author Posted May 29, 2011 Hmm the link works fine for me, try this one http://www.dixons.co.uk/gbuk/logik-lwc32b1...340966-pdt.html its the 'logik lwc32b10' went to three stores and the staff in each place couldnt tell me if it was termo or compressor, or what the difference was lol

One thing to check is the running temperature of the device, it is stated as a White/sparkling wine cooler. If that is the case you should consider that white wines are usually stored at 10c while red wines are stored at 16. cigars are best stored at 16-18c below that you will slow down the aging process. What is your room temperature where the cigars are to be stored? here is a link to a list of thermoelectric coolers sold in the UK... Thermo coolers Most are Thermo electric and they state it clearly. Hope this helps.
CaptainQuintero Posted May 29, 2011 Author Posted May 29, 2011 Ah thanks for the info, the room I store in at the moment is pretty much 65 f all year around. So I'm thinking mainly about storage i.e it's a sealed box which I probably won't turn on and keep a couple of pounds of beads in. There was a Samsung chiller next to it in all the store which had a higher price and visable fans but at the back of my mind I'm still thinking that I think I will basically be using it as box for controlling humidity. I pretty much have the choice of a 300 cap humidor, a wine cooler or a wine fridge all around the £200 mark. I'm leaning towards the wine fridge for the bigger capacity and fed of up of stressing over my desktops

Something like this: Coolers Just stick a couple of fans in there and you are good to go. Use the extra cash to buy cigars
CaptainQuintero Posted May 29, 2011 Author Posted May 29, 2011 Yeah I looked at them but for some reason in the UK they seem vastly overpriced compared to the rest of the world, it could be because we dont get warm weather so dont need to chill our drinks outside lol. I'm thinking if I'm going to have to spend £160+ for a coolbox with decent quality seals then I might as well spend £200 on a whole chiller cabinet. ...and I still have to find a space for whatever I choose lol! Just a quick thought, how loud generally are thermoelectric cabinets? Are they like PC fan noise or start of a jumbo jet?
gigabyte056 Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 They are like a pc with two large fans, not overly loud. not something for the bedroom, unless you snore
