This is my first attempt. This is a summary of my experience rather than a thorough review...

So I recently got my hands on some behike 54s. after reading and hearing so much about them I decided to try for myself.

Location and environment:Open patio; Light to med wind; about 25 degrees C; 80%RH

Pairing: cold water, no ice

Light aroma. For some reason I was expecting it to be pungent...

Wrapper was Milk-tea in color. Lighter than expected. No oil visible, but definitely not dry.

Construction near prefect. Minor blemishes. Some minor veins visible

At cold - draw is near perfect for me. A little restriction, just the way I like it.

Opening -

tad harsh on back of throat, but the harshness was Extremely little.

Definitely cream at first taste.

Toasted tobacco. Very Smooth.

Little spice on back of tongue.

I did a very poor job in toasting the foot to start.

1/3

Its like it had a mind of its own. The uneven burn totally evened out - not razor sharp, but realigned.

Zero harshness - even the little bit from the beginning is totally gone

Toasted tobacco

Little earthiness when paired with water. I use the water to clean the pallet

Super strong ash - held intact for a while. I tried to shake it off using the index finger to tap and it wouldn't budge.

Perfect draw. It was amazing because when I left it sitting, there was literally no smoke, but upon each draw the amount was almost uncontrollable.

Mild to med in terms of strength

Ash finally falls and the burn continues at an uneven rate

2/3

Near the mid 2/3 there was a but of Spice coming back

The ash even itself out again - could be due to wind or the way I was drawing the smoke

post-8936-1304755665.jpg

The middle of the ash was a bit yellow in color - sunrise yellow

The texture of the ash was and ***** willow like

There was a noticeable increase in strength - more like med strength

Smoke in air is super fragrant - can't pick out any distinct flavors at the moment.

No harshness at all

Still lots of smoke

Cedar notes and lots of cream. There was a feeling that there was coating of smoke on my tongue.

Tiny hint of floral notes when exhaling through the nostrils

Menthol coolness on tip of tongue

End of 2nd third ash returns to white - like salt and pepper color

Med to full bodied

post-8936-1304755701.jpg

3/3

Ash continues to even out

Impressive strong/hard ash

Ash color lSilver back ash

More cream

Hint of spice comes and goes

very smooth

More strength - the strength really hits me in the final third. I didn't expect that much nicotine. Not as pleasant for me. Best part was definitely the end of 1/3 to very beg of 3/3

Still learning the ins-outs of reviewing and have to build my palette and vocabulary, but had to get my feet wet, so here it is...

Thanks for the nice review. Just wondering if your enjoyment of the final third would have been better if the size of the punch/hole had been bigger, as it seems small in relation to the 54 diameter. I generally prefer straight cuts myself; especially for the larger vitolas.

that's a fantastic question and one that I have also asked. I have always been accustomed to using a punch. and in this case, there is still copious amounts of smoke to taste with each draw. I don't know if it would make a difference. that said, I may give it a try this coming weekend... hehheh

any reason to smoke the bhk again is a good reason... :2thumbs:

will let you know....

x2 on any reason to smoke the bhk is a good reason : ) I have to wait till July 1 before I can next get to enjoy 1 since I decided to only smoke 1 every 6 months, to make the box last till 5 years. By that time, my other box from MAR10, would be have aged another 5 years. Yummy.

Great review, thanks. Nice job for your first!

I ended up with a couple of boxes of 54's, and have had two very different experiences on the three that i have smoked:

1. The first one i had was everything you described here and much much more...I cut a much larger opening, and the back end was as good as the first!

2. The next two that i smoked gave me a bizarre experience - the first third was so uneven, that i had an inch of difference in the ash from one side to the other! Same technique that i always use to heat the foot. Poor draw at the onset, and eventually gets better. My buddy had the identical experience - the cigar straightens itself out after the first 1/3, and opens up.

Anyone else experience this on their Behike's?

I'm wondering if the one box i received dated 12/10 is too fresh?
