headstand Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 My obsession with the Lusitania continues: it was on May 7, 1915 that the namesake ship was sunk by a German U-boat off the coast of Ireland. Wonder if there will be a special 100th anniverary cigar showing up in a few years?
leojvs Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 I have a fascinating book on the topic. It sank in 14 minutes if I remember correctly? Is the Partagas cigar named after the ship?
headstand Posted May 7, 2011 Author Posted May 7, 2011 I can only assume it is...perhaps one of knowledgeable friends will know.
compitaveggie Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Wonder if there will be a special 100th anniverary cigar showing up in a few years? I have always been fascinated with the Titanic..way before the movie came out and more so since. It was recently the 99 year anniversary of its sinking. I also wonder if there will be a 100 year anniversary cigar in honor of the Titanic or to capitalize on it. Seems to me that a United Kingdom Regional Edition named the "Titanic" would be freaking cool if not cheesy Jose

BobKincaid Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Is the Partagas cigar named after the ship? I don't think it is named after the ship. The word is also the name of a region in either Spain (or Portugal?) which took its name from the tribes inhabiting it as far back as Roman times, to wit: the Lusitani. They were fierce and warlike. Then again, that's what the Romans said about everyone whose land and resources they coveted.
