tjhernandez34 Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 I was looking at flights from Canada to Havana on the Air Canada website and the disclaimer at the top says this "Proof of traveller's medical insurance is now required as a condition for entry into Cuba. If you wish, you can purchase travel insurance online from RBC Travel Insurance Company later in the booking process." I was just wondering if this was accurate or if it was just a gimmick to get you to purchase RBC's service. Thanks for any input!
rckymtn22 Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 You do need insurance to enter Cuba. The Cuban government was tired covering tourist medical bill I guess. If you do not have any, you have to buy some before you enter from the Cubans. Last time I went there last summer just bought tourist insurance in Canada but no one check that we had any before we entered.
Murri Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 My travel agent clarified this for our last trip. Our provincial insurance coverage OHIP (I'm from Ontario) was adequate. We were not questioned upon arrival in Cuba. Check with a local travel agent.
anthem Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 My understanding is that OHIP insurance is fine. I purchased my TAs travel insurance, and we were not asked for any proof of insurance when we arrived. This was back in October. Have a great vacation!!!
