TMS36 Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 You can have any box, what is it and will you share? For those of you that have already accomplished this, was it worth the hunt and most certain financial outlay? Once one has found the white whale do you begin the hunt again? I have 2 Davidoff #1 and Dom P. I will def not be sharing

Once one has found the white whale do you begin the hunt again?I have 2 Davidoff #1 and Dom P. I will def not be sharing I don't have a wide enough knowledge of CCs just yet to know what my white whale would be, but I would definitely have to share it. To me a lot of the enjoyment is experiencing these types of things with others who appreciate them as well, and I have always been lucky enough to have friends that felt equally so. When I lived in Austin and still worked in the liquor biz, me and 5 or 6 of my best friends were rather inspired by the story of a guy who bought a bottle of Dalmore 62 for £32,000 and drank the whole thing with he and some of his friends in one night. When asked to comment, Dalmore's master blender at the time said he was happy that someone cracked it open and enjoyed it rather than leaving it on a shelf somewhere (Story is linked below). We liked the sentiment and started what we called "The Bottle Project." Story Obviously, none of us had that kind of scratch to drop on a bottle of booze, so we had to go a little cheaper. Each month, one of us from the group would purchase a bottle of liquor that was at least $150 to sample with all of us. The rule was that once it was opened, no matter what it cost, the bottle had to be drained that night with no attention paid to it's exclusivity or cost. It was all about enjoying the spirit for its own sake. I don't know that a bottle worth more than maybe $400 ever showed up (which was actually quite a lot for us given our age and careers at the time), but it was a helluvalot of fun. We all got to drink some great stuff, tell stories, smoke cigars, and just enjoy the experience, which is a very roundabout way of explaining why I think "white whales" for me are much more fun when enjoyed with at least one or two of your best friends. For me making the memory is totally worth it.

Rogers72 Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Mine would be the original Bolivar Especiales #2 and/or any box of Dunhill Don Candido. I will never be able to acquire one of these boxes as there are so few of them around and I am not a rich man. I would be happy enough with a single of either! Were I to ever acquire a box, I would share with anyone who I felt would cherish the experience.
