ajgagnon Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 You know, I wouldn't be a good Canadian if I didn't talk about the weather six times a day. I enjoyed a cigar today! It was snowing. Yeah, not an April Fool's Day gag... it was puking snow today. Yesterday it was sunny and dry, and almost spring. So anyway, I had another Por Larranaga today, another Montecarlo. Interesting little panatelas. It lit modestly. At first, it seemed a bit nondescript and edgy. Hmmm. Then half an inch in, the aroma began to build. What an interesting collection of wood, cinnamon and Cuban tobacco richness! It built in wood and aroma, with sweet spice like nutmeg, but mostly extremely aromatic exotic wood. I could have smoked it all day, whether because it was the first cigar in forever, or because the flavours are so damn good, and consistently so. I can't wait to try the other vitolas. Now, I was a bit distracted while smoking this little cigar. I shovelled the sidewalk, which is a lost cause while smoking a cigar... it all just goes up your nose. So I made a snowman. But the thing that struck me, finishing up my cigar, was the finish. Besides aromatic wood and spice was something else. I couldn't put my finger on it at first. It was something vaguely vegetal. It was familiar but unusual. I swear, the finish on this cigar left me with artichoke hearts! Has anyone else come across this?
HGFlex Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Never gotten artichokes here... but you snow-dude looks like he could use a stogie!
dicko Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Great photos. You're good with making the snow men. Lisa is hunting down a box of PL montecarlos this week!! cheers for the review. They say Canadians are like Australians but cold, but you can keep your snow
ajgagnon Posted April 3, 2011 Author Posted April 3, 2011 Cheers, all. It's a Montecarlo. Rather satisfying. Given the aromatic tobacco, I can only wonder what the Encantos will be like. I know the snowman should have had a stogie, but I couldn't part with mine until it was too late.
headstand Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 All thats snow makes even Ken's deck look inviting...I wonder if takes boarders?
First Lady Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Give me the snow anyday seven months of heat and humidity is crap
lancerv43 Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Nicely done. That weather is brutal looking. Tomorrow our forecast is a low of 37F high of 80F with snow. This is gonna be crazy.
ckearns Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Great post. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience.
thechenman Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Can't say I've ever experienced artichoke hearts in my cigar, but then again...I'm still waiting to experience the crushed ants that Smithy so aptly described. Great review though and thanks for sharing those pics. Your snowman has an incredible face. Did you do all that by hand?
