Lounge and cigar bar to open at former Club 19 site in North York

STAFF REPORT - The York Dispatch

http://www.yorkdispatch.com/news/ci_17584353

Steve Perko Jr. said he has grown past the rowdy dance clubs where patrons can barely hear each other speak.

So Perko, 26, is opening his Lux Night Lounge and Cigar Bar at 1327 N. Duke St. in North York.

"It's a place where people are responsible, going out for a night on the town" said Perko, a North York resident. "It's simple, cut and dry that you have to be an adult to get in. If you're of age, you can be here."

The lounge - strictly for people ages 21 and over - will open to the public at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 24. Lounge hours are 4 p.m. to midnight on Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays, and 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

The 3,700-square-foot site will be closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays so that local businesses and organizations can reserve it for private events, Perko said.

The lounge's nonsmoking and smoking areas are separate. In the cigar bar, people can purchase Davidoff cigars, a Swiss tobacco product, said Vincent Reedy, creative director for Holberg Design, a local firm assisting Perko with marketing.

"Davidoff is the Rolex of the cigar industry," Reedy said. "You can't sell them everywhere. Davidoff (representatives) came to York and said yes. Here we are in little York, Pa., and Davidoff gave their blessing and approval. These cigars are normally sold in places like New York, Beijing and Tokyo."

Lux - the former site of Club 19, which served under-21 patrons - has 12 employees including security that is trained to detect fake identification. The security team also use scanners that keep count of how many people are in the club, and there are security cameras around the building, Perko said.

"I'm a big person on service and quality and making everybody happy and at the same time being responsible," he said.

They are right though! Only in major cities will you find Davidoffs steadily available at 7-11.

Woooooooowwwwww. :huh::D

Really???!!! Well, I guess....yes, Davidoff maybe are EXACTLY like Rolex.

They're antiquated old relics, past their prime, quite often the fakes are better than the originals, they're oh so exclusive that you can't get them absolutely anywhere (I can't find them at my local 7-Eleven - egads!!!), and they're just stale crap.

Sorry to all the Rolex lovers out there, but just my opinions.

Gawd. What a douchebag this guy sounds like. A 26-year-old without a clue. Sounds like he's trying his best to puff out his chest and grandstand.

He's got such a high-tech environment, and it's so luxurious, and his clients are going to be the VIP's of Pennsylvania, blah, blah, blah.

Anyone that's been in security and such knows....just him making claims like this, he's putting out a huge welcome mat for people to screw with this perfect little plan. Next thing he knows, he could potentially be shut down, as minors aplenty could be found within likely.

It's great to hear of another cigar lounge opening. A couple of things catch my eye (trying to keep in mind this is from a local news source):

Closing midweek for private events - are they already lined up, are they merely hopeful, would they have midweek business anyway?

The security aspect - again, I've no knowledge of the area, the club's history etc, but the possible need would make me think twice about

the type of place it might be / end up being.

As to the cigar aspect, how would we expect them to run a promotional PR campaign?

Best of luck - I hope they thrive.

Davidoffs are actually very good sellers here in Malaysia. Lots of old fartsy smokers still go for it (and they happen to be the rich demographic here).
