El Presidente Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 This cigar didn't look too bad at all. Construction appreared top notch but the aroma at cold gave it away as not being a true Cuban Tobacco. If I had to choose I would say very good Dominican. I am going to come right out and say it. I enjoyed this cigar! There was no metallic hints, bitterness, astringency that one gets with so many fake cigars. This cigar was just shy under medium bodied with a nice milk cream and coffee profile that did not change one iota from beginning to end. The draw was perfect, the smoke cool and enjoyable without reaching any great heights. With such a simple flavour profile, the size of the cigar let it down. This blend in a half corona would work well. There is certainly not a lick of Ligero in this cigar but some very good quality seco and volado. For anyone not familiar with Cohiba or the Reserva they could be happily conned for years. A nice surprise. Solid 86/87.
ajgagnon Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 May I offer to take the fakes? Or can we set up a trash talk tasting sampler for members to compare notes? For example, if someone were to acquire fakes and be miffed to the point of donating them to science (and they aren't revolting), why not circulate them (for a very nominal fee) for dissection, trash-talking, etc? Maybe alongside an El Credito or something. Or beside the real thing. Don't mind me, I'm just praying for winter to end and cigars to smoke. Apparently North America is in a deep freeze across the board and all spring due to La Nina.
Colt45 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Solid 86/87. Score based on it's own merits only, or taking into consideration what it is supposed to be?
CanuckSARTech Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Score based on it's own merits only, or taking into consideration what it is supposed to be? +1. ??? Pres?? I'm curious also, as I have these same four from Doc as well. I'm a bit scared, actually. I promised him that I'd smoke through them (as much as humanly possible), and would do pics and a review. But, I'm a bit worried as to what I've gotten myself in for. The Cuaba scares me, as does the brutal looking Monte 2. Are you scoring these in compared to "real" scores, or as fakes?
maalouly Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Score based on it's own merits only, or taking into consideration what it is supposed to be? +3 I think it's hard to take away, subconsciously, the fact that one was trying a fake cohiba
DOORJOK Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Atchbo, Come on down to So Cal. Its supposed to be 75 here on Wednesday in Ventura County. I cant complain about nothing.
El Presidente Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 Score based on it's own merits only, or taking into consideration what it is supposed to be? Mate, for better or worse I just rate them as a cigar. I am simply not bright enough to do it any other way
Colt45 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I am simply not bright enough to do it any other way Kind of redundant to actually say out loud, don't you think?
n2advnture Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I smoked a fake Cohiba Sublime Extra ("book" cigar) that was purchased from someone who's "friend flies them back on his jet" LOL and I wouldn't have known it was fake unless I smoked a real one along with it. It was a great cigar, just not as great as the real thing but pretty darned close. Everything about it looked, smelled and tasted legit (expect for the length was 1/4" shorter) ~M
