Do stores in Cuba allow you to open and inspect boxes before you buy?

Yes. But some level of common sense must be used. If you are opening boxes you better be buying. That's my opinion.

You can bring back to Canada as many cigars as you want. They don't limit you to 50. You are only allowed to bring back 50 cigars duty free. Big difference. I always bring 3 - 4x the duty free limit. Rarely get dinged with duties, and I declare everything. No hiding with me.

That's what I meant (50 without duty). If I was going to pay duty I'd just get them at the store down the road B)

And I get charged tobacco tax + duty *EVERY* time I come in to Canada. I live in a border town and go to Niagara Falls/Lewiston (NY) a lot. Every time I've declared smokes or booze, I've got charged tax on it. ONCE in awhile if you just tell them you've got a case of beer, and they're busy, they'll just say ok. But there's no way I'm going to try and bring back a box of cigars which cost me $200, and end up paying $600 for them because the guy decided to apply the tobacco tax. Of course, if money isn't an object and you've got it to spend, by all means. I'm poor and cannot afford it :innocent:

^^ Like Tarks said, yah.. you'd come off as quite a bit of an (insert bad word here) if you just started opening boxes and inspecting them for no reason. :innocent: But when you're spending hundreds of dollars on cigars, I'd never buy something I couldn't see. Nothing worse then getting back, opening them up, and finding mold all over them, or bugs, or wrappers with huge cracks running through them.
