nookie Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Hello everyone! I hope there is someone here who can help me. I teach english as a second language and one of my students is an avid cigar connaisseur and has asked me to help him out with some info on this particular cigar. He's presenting it to his club later this week and hasn't been able to find much info as to the origins and maybe some history about the exhibicion n°4. Can any of you help him out please? Thanks in advance! nookie
cigcars Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 *I happen to have Theo Ruddman's Complete Cigar Guide with me and if one desires a professional, well trained birdseye view of cigars (especially habanas), he's the man! His words about the Romeo & Julieta Exhibicion No. 4 are, "Well made elegant cigar. Has unusual tropical fruit aroma. Rich & subtle. Difficult to obtain but worth the effort." And he gives it 5 stars rating, his highest out of 1 to 5 stars for cigar ratings in his book(s).
cgarner Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 If your student has access to the internet, he/she might find some helpful info on Trevor's website. http://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/brand.asp...Romeo_y_Julieta I would advise your student be very cautious about talking about ratings found in a book. If he can find info on the flavor profile and how it has evolved (good or bad) I would discuss that instead of what someone rated it. By the way, I have a box of 08's and they are complete garbage. I've heard they used to be quiet good little smokes but something seemed to go array.

There you can find the history, at least, of the Cuban Romeo & Julieta that began in 1875 at the company Alvarez y Garcia and got a boost to stardom when Rodriquez "Pepin" Fernandez bought the brand in 1903. Within two years Pepin had made it into one of the largest selling premium havanas in the world. It was originally produced in the Dunhill factories, but moved to the Partagas factory years later (I don't have the year). Everybody can find the history of the R&J Churchill size which was named after Sir Winston Churchill who loved that brand so. I hope this is some help on the track to his info gatherings!
nookie Posted February 21, 2011 Author Posted February 21, 2011 Thankyou everyone for your help I will tell him about the books you have recommended. Hopefully he can find them in French so he can fully enjoy them without having to translate. As for the website, I actually already came across this one in my research but didn't quite find out what he needs. I believe what he needs is just an explanation on why this cigar is named the way it is. Is there a reason or a story on why it's named exhibicion n°4? Thanks again. nookie
Ozz1113 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I just checked the Min Ron NEE encylcopedia and there is no mention of why it was named the way it was.
