It's not my intention to come off as glib, but the 70/70 climate is considered by many members to be on the myth / old wives tale side of things.

65, 64, 63, 62..... plenty of humidity, and don't be afraid to give it a try with some of your cigars - but again, your own personal preference rules.

Most importantly, do not hesitate to ask any questions you might have - the members here have a wide range of knowledge and are happy to share it.

Flippant, making light of the situation, or crap on the beliefs of others - generally speaking, trying not to be a know-it-all anus ;)

I agree fully with everything Colt's said. Your mid-60's range sounds fine. If it's not over 70% RH, or way under 60%, there's nothing to be worried about.

I find that a half filled desk humi tends to have more trouble holding RH than a full one. Also, if the air in the room is a lot drier than normal (eg running a gas heater in the winter) the humi RH drops like a stone.

Fuzz makes a very good point w.r.t. the air in the room. Depending on the seal of your humidor, you may experience fluctuations in RH during the winter months in Canada especially if you have forced air heating and outside temperatures are fluctuating from -20 to 0 and back again. If you suspect that the seal on your humidor is less than ideal you will need to just monitor the RH a bit more than usual in extreme weather conditions. You may also find the opposite effect in the hot and humid summer months when humidity outside gets upwards of 90%. That having been said I definatley agree that 62 - 65 % is a good range to be in for your humidor.

70% RH means most of my cigars are too tight to smoke...this is exactly what brought me to this forum. I was working hard on trying to maintain 70% and non of my cigars were smoking well. Very annoying. 64% -66% RH seems to be the right place for me now.

Yep I have to agree with most of what's been said here.I was extremely anal about the whole 70/70 thing when I first got going but turned out I'm very, very happy at 63-65%.A little experience and the help of forums like this was invaluable, still is.
