El Presidente Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I really enjoyed this blog by JERRY WEINBERGER of City Journal. It certainly resonated with me. I hope you enjoy it as well. http://www.city-journal.org/2011/21_1_diarist-cigars.html
Colt45 Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Good read - especially liked the Hopper reference. I'm always taken by the perspective or even sense of awareness smoking a cigar alone can bring.
samb Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Very interesting reflections. The bit about cigarettes brings out a sense of nostalgia for me, as I can understand how he must felt.
n2advnture Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Maybe it's the early morning and having little sleep or that I'm a dunce but could someone help me understand what this line means? "...and life not so reminded is not whole—is no life at all." TIA ~M
CanuckSARTech Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 A great read (especially as a former cigarette smoker). Really enjoyed reading that article. Thanks for sharing, Pres.
PLUSH Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Ah, the cigar is just a fleeting moment, but the reflection of moments it brings is everlasting.
tigger Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Nice read.! My take on the quoted piece is that the time we have is precious, that a life that doesn't acknowledge that is less worth living, and that a cigar is a good reminder of this.
JohnnyC Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 This article brings back many memories. I to was a former cigarette smoker who quit the filthy weed many years ago. Just recently I discover the simple pleasure a cigar brings to my day. It is a time I look forward to and treasure when I get a chance to partake ( which is nonexistent lately because of the adverse winter conditions ). The cigar gives me a chance to slow down and partake in what life has to offer. Great Article. Thank you Mr President for being it to our attention.
BatFastard Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Very enjoyable read and well put. Thanks El Prez!
