During the recent flooding here in Brisbane, the office I work in went completely underwater. We have since moved to a temporary office in the CBD, making use of some spare space our accountants had.

As we are getting to know the other people in the office, I was chatting to the lady who works behind me, and I mentioned my previous job five years ago and how it lead to my current job. She was interested in this, as her daughter had worked for the same company around the same time, and she asked if I knew her. It turns out that her daughter was the girl that I used to have lunch with most days :)

Sometimes it amazes me at how small the world really is.

Any other members here had any similar experiences?

Yeah. Went to watch the AFL Grand Final in 2008, as it was being televised in Moscow. Was 7am in the morning (due to time difference) and a bitterly cold day. There were about 15 people there, one of whom grew up 5 minutes from my house in Melbourne and was about the same age as me. Never knew him back then, but there were several people we both knew.

Yes a couple of times in fact.

Back in the early 80's I spent a fair bit of time in Tokyo. One night, while in a club in Roppongi, I hear my name called out and there to my complete surpise was friend from the high school that I went to in Virginia. Turns out that he had joined the US navy and was stationed there for a bit.

More recently however

Two weeks ago my wife and I were in a small local bar that is owned by some friends of ours. We strike up a conversation with a young lady from Brisbane. I mention that I am a member of a cigar forum located in Brisbane and then she says the only cigar place that she knows is the Czar!! She also mentions that the owners name is Rob!! Well you could imagine our surprise at this coincidence.

She was still a bit down from Australia loosing the Ashes on home soil so my wife and I bought her a few beers and chatted with her for an hour or two.

Strangely enough she had nothing but good things to say about Rob and the crew from the Czar. Entirely possible that her memory of Rob had faded a bit due to the number of beverages consumed during the course of the evening.
