Cuban group Los Van Van in San Francisco

Cuba's most popular group just started their US tour and will be in San Francisco from December 9-December 12th. I just purchased my tickets for the Saturday 10 pm show, so if anyone wanted to meet up for cigars before the show hit me up. I plan to have dinner and cigars before then off to the show at 10.

Los Van Van are one of the top groups in Cuba, consistently popular as a dance band.

Under the direction of songwriter, bassist and vocalist Juan Formell, the 14-piece orchestra plays an irresistible brand of dance music which they originated, called songo— an invigorating fusion of Cuban and Caribbean rhythms, rich with a blend of traditional and contemporary Cuban sounds. Consisting of six independent sections— three vocalists, two violinists, three percussionists, three trombonists, two keyboardists and a bassist— the band is a charanga (flutes and violins), a salsa orchestra (edgy trumpets and trombones), and a premier rock band (electric bass and drums) all in one.

they are definitely worth seeing, though they must be getting on a bit now.

always staggers me how even the young generation of cubans still treat these guys like the beatles in their heyday. no division of generations at all.
