mm12 Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 I haven't smoked any of these in the past year or so, and today I decided to see where they were at. I had high expectations going in, and the cigar still managed to pleasantly surprise me. These have nice golden Colorado wrapper that is moderately oily and silky smooth. Construction is perfect, and aroma at cold is leather. The draw is excellent and gives a slight toasted tobacco flavor at cold. 1/3: The cigar opened right at medium with rich leather flavors and a bit of toast. As I got into the first third, a bit of orange-flavored sweetness started come in just around the edges and build. This was a pretty unique flavor profile for me, and I really enjoyed it. As I got near the end of the first third, some creaminess started to show through and the leather/orange flavor faded. 2/3: Still medium in body. Pretty much the entire second third of this cigar was dominated by a very rich cream and nut flavor. Just excellent. 3/3: The body stayed at medium. The nuts and cream faded away and a toasty flavor began to emerge. After a little bit, some slight cinnamon and nutmeg spices began to appear along with a little bit of sweetness. The cigar ended with a distinct flavor profile of French toast. This was a very non-Upmanny Upmann to me. If I had smoked this cigar blind, I wouldn't have the slightest clue what I was smoking, which I think is pretty odd for me. I feel like I have a pretty good sense of the general flavor profiles of most of the marcas, but this cigar didn't fit into any of them. It was very unique, and VERY good. I rate this cigar at 94, and it was one of the best I've had all year.
dicko Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 great review. I very good cigar, i wish i had a box of these.
nikson7 Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Thanks for the wonderful review. Had one last night, excellent cigar.
edjohnb Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 I just had one just this afternoon. A MAR10 box of 10s I recently bought. I agree that it started out leathery but I got quite bit of spice notes. Lots of smoke, nutty and creamy in the next 1/3; the best part of this cigar. Lots of ash hanging on, great construction. Draw has been a bit on the tough side but very tolerable. The last 1/3 was dry and I had a cloying feeling towards the end. Nonetheless, a good smoke. Great with an lounge-y afternoon coffee!
tmac77 Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Great review and much appreciated. I am a big fan of the H. Upmann Mag 46 and have been on the fence about getting a box of the Mag 50's. Nice to hear that they seem to be very different from other Upmann's.
Laxman Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 I love the mag 46's have a few boxes and all have been great. Guess I have not had any luck with the Mag 50's so far. Smoked a few out of different boxes but have not gotten a good one yet. I keep seeing high reviews here in the forum so I will stick with it!
Puros Y Vino Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Great review. The Mag 50 is one of my top cigars. Bought 2 25 cabs because I love 'em so much.
docbp87 Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 These have been on the to buy list for a while, mostly for that fruit flavor, of which I am a HUGE fan in cigars.
xxxbusa Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 One of my everyday fav's, this is the main cigar of the day for me, special occasion require something else, but this is my #1 out of 3 for the day.

I have two cabs of 50 tucked away and each one has been delicious with perfect construction. Don't give up on this great smoke.
thechenman Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 H. Up Mag50 is right up there on the list for me as one of my favorite CCs...prefer it to the 46 and 48 EL. Simply a fantastic cigar.
ksblazer Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Thanks for posting your review. I really liked the 08 Mag 50's burned through a 10ct & 25ct box already. Need to get some more soon. 08 has been a very good year for Upmann IMO. Mag 50's, Regalias and No2''s are some of my Fav's
