Martindelmundo Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Hello all. I bought a few H. Upmann mag 46 a few weeks back and I noticed they had some dark spots on them But I didn't think nothing of it. Tonight I'm smoking the third one in my newly developed man cave and the light in here really shows off these spots (and a sloppy glue job) Just wondering what the hell are these spots . They cause no foul taste and only these cigars I have in my humidor are these mag 46's. Any ideas. Thanks in advance. Cheers Martin
Martindelmundo Posted October 11, 2010 Author Posted October 11, 2010 It looks like it's just oil from the wrapper. But souldn't oil just wipe off. these are in the wrapper. I tried to scrap them with my finger nail and it broke the wrapper a bit.
El Presidente Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 But souldn't oil just wipe off. these are in the wrapper. I tried to scrap them with my finger nail and it broke the wrapper a bit. It is oil. Good sign
Martindelmundo Posted October 11, 2010 Author Posted October 11, 2010 Well I guess you do learn something everyday. Never new that oil would manifest into little balck spots. Thank you all. Another question. I have a few bolivar churchills en tubos from 2000. They don't have and oil marks but the feal dusty, i think this is crystals. Why do spots and crystals form?
asmith Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 That be them good oils that only Cuba can supply
Stalebread Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Is that what would typically be called a "mottled" wrapper?
CanuckSARTech Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Yes - mottled or "marbled" is very good. It means that down the line, if storage conditions are proper, that this is a prime candidate for potential "bloom" on your cigar. Very nice. The crystalation on a wrapper is from these oils slowly evaporating off of the surface of the wrapper leaf. Either sign - marbled wrapper, or bloom - is of a potentially great cigar.
