Group Review: Montecristo Number 4

Would absolutely LOVE to - I'm about a month now since my last stogie, and I miss the flavours.

But, alas, there are things to do this evening. I've had a plan in place for a few days now, though, to smoke a cigar or two with some co-workers tomorrow, so we'll see what that brings. My throat still isn't 100% healed up (still have a bit of a squeaky voice at times - maybe I need to stop yelling all the time! ), so we'll see how things go, and whether my palate/tastebuds are up to par again.

Fingers crossed.

Cocoa notes on the prelight. Cigar is a little soft on the tip, fine everywhere else. Draw is great (just some resistance).

Opens with a coffee blast. We're talking black coffee with a teaspoon of raw sugar. Ash is very smooth and white. Burn is OK.

Little harsh on the light. Great draw, great burn, nice ash

Lovely draw. Good supple colorado wrapper.

Medium bodied. Starting cocoa and coffee on palate.

Things have calmed down a bit. We have added some milk to the coffee, but it is still strong. There may be a little youth in the back of the tongue...burn is still just OK

Not quite medium body but trying to get there. Coffee and cocoa emerging. Good volume of smoke.

Almost half way and the coffee is smoother and there are hints of cocoa...now this is what I like in a Monte 4...

Last third and it has turned medium bodied. Much stronger coffee notes with less cocoa

Going well with a black coffee.

My companion does not demand much from me. it performs a simple and satisfying delivery of cocoa, milk coffee and toasted tobacco. Medium bodied, good levels of smoke.

Overall a nice smoke, which would definitely benefit with some more box time.

This was a great idea except I had to concentrate on poker as well as the review. I'm old, hard to multitask.

The last third is gaining strength again, but not as potent as the first third. Predominatly coffee notes, with a little twang (youth). Overall, I'm going with an 87. Thanks for the company!

Finished fuller with a nice little kick

Just an enjoyable cigar and one that I have had hundreds of times in the past. Dependable, enjoyable if not rocking my world. I have had stellar Monte 4's and Monte 4's which are dogs. The vast majority however are like this one. Good to very good.
