soltino Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 It was a clear sunny day here in Beijing, which was a joy after the last couple of rainy days. I decided to take the opportunity to have a long lunch and indulge in something a little out of the ordinary - for me anyway! This piramides was very well constructed with a dark brown wrapper verging on a light maduro. Great barnyard aroma at cold, which was also present when the cigar was clipped and some sample draws taken. She felt firm to the touch with just the right amount of resistance when pressed between finger and thumb. The opening showed spice and some pepper through the nose, but nothing overpowering. The most obvious flavour coming through was a kind of heavy treacle laced with stone fruits – a sweet and pungent set of flavours which continued in some shape or form throughout the length of the smoke. This had obviously been made with quality tobacco. The second third showed some hints of biscuit, something like a Bourbon, mild and chocolatey, but the predominant flavour now was definitely stone fruit, something like plum. The final third continued much in the same vein, nothing really new trying to bubble to the surface, but the overall characteristics of this smoke were very enjoyable. Smoke volume was good, coating the mouth with each draw, leaving a pleasant aftertaste, which unfortunately waned all too soon after the smoke had completed. Overall a solid 89. Marks lost really because although this was a very enjoyable smoke it didn’t really deliver anything unexpected. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, but I found the cigar a bit monotonous. I don’t think it has evolved a huge amount over the last 2 years, but then again 2 years is a very short amount of time, so there is still time to change! Not that it needs to change really, it is great as it is, but just lacking that extra “je ne sais quoi”…
mazolaman Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Nice review Soltino,I still havent tried one of these,as they seem a bit pricey!
MIKA27 Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Great review Saltino, I just love the Cuaba Piramides, one of my favourite LE's. Nice pictures also mate.
edjohnb Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 I had this the other day with an afternoon coffee. It was so good. Not too heavy going, just nice creamy smoke. Get a box? Seriously, one can consider getting one because tobacco was aged 2 years before rolling and then it's further aged 2 years now. Lovely pictures! Thanks!
