buster Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 San Cristobal El Principe- OPM MAR 10 - PSPPrice USD$159 Price AUD$373 Price includes delivery Email Lisa Not trying to bust any chops here, but honestly would like to know: I always thought PSP was supposed to be, among other things, cosmetically (near) perfect. Looks like many of the wrappers are either crunched or rather veiny, and a few of the feet are torn a bit. Just asking. I was waiting for these since it was mentioned some nice ones came in a couple of weeks ago, surprised to see only this box. Just looking for HQ, maybe PE, never felt the need to splurge on PSP, but may have considered it if they looked the part. Can't justify a $1.60 vig on a $4.80 stick looking like these. My last box ('07 or '08 box code IIRC) looked much better, can't say what "grade" they were as it was prior to the HQ/PSP/PE program. Rick

A lot of factors are taken into consideration with the selection process for PE/HQ/PSP. Yes I will agree with you that there is a small crack in the foot of a cigar but that is not going to prevent the box from being PSP. The cigars do have a constant wrapper colour and oils. Also they have a great nose of coffee and sweet spice. The construction is fantastic throughout which is important in thin gauge cigars. Rob and I have both inspected the box and agree on its grade. If either one of us disagree the box is down graded it cannot remain on a high level. If they are not for you I'm sure there are some other boxes that will take your fancy.

Thanks for the reply, Smithy. We all appreciate the hard work. I know it's a tough job, but someone's got to do it I'll keep my eyes open for something I like. Rick
frenchkiwi Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Smithy, Rob, Looking at all these beauties from 2010, I'm wondering if the quality of 2010 boxes is consistently very high at the mo? (remember some posts about how good late '09 was, habanos factories working with low quantities etc). Or are there still plenty of shockers coming through the doors (e.g. cuaba)? cheers...!

bob25 Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 I think there's a small typo on the RASS price too...
buster Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Wow, $6.36 a stick, and that's a drama? Man, try paying $14.92 a stick (as we do in Australia, the land of the Czar). Some people just don't know when they've got it good! Well, if I'm on the Czar's site, and I have an online humi account, you can be assured I know exactly how good I have it . I understand your point, however, it's all relative, and quoting raw dollar prices doesn't mean a whole lot. Am I glad I don't have to pay Aussie prices? You betcha! But the price structure is what it is, my budget and my expectations are what they are, and I have to make decisions based on that. I assumed these sticks smelled like pure ambrosia to be rated PSP, but appearance wise, I didn't think they looked as good as the pictures of any of the HQ stock, and waiting for PE or HQ stock is the best decision for me. 33% more is 33% more, whether it is added on to a base price of $4 or $40 dollars (although I grant you, the smaller dollar value can make a purchase decision more palatable, depending on ones budget). Now if for some reason I woke up tomorrow and was living Down Under, maybe I would cut down on my cigar smoking (doubtful), or maybe I would stick to to El Principes and more budget priced stock and buy less Trinis and Cohiba. So, my condolences to our fellow BOTL in Oz who have to pay the extra vig above and beyond... I feel for you. On the bright side, living down there does have it's advantages: I guess I don't mind giving up on 2.6 years of my life in order to get Cohiba CE's at $12.90 US v. $29.25 AU Cheers, Rick

bassman Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 $378 US for a box of RASS? That can't be right, can it?
asmith Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 $378 US for a box of RASS? That can't be right, can it? Sorry my mistake, that was the 50 cab price. It has now been fixed to USD$194
buster Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Sorry Buster, was only 'busting your chops' mate, no mal-intent meant. I guess in Oz that's what we get, and I suppose if I don't like it, I can always give the cigars up (not bloody likely - I'd rather give up the beer, wine and any luxury foods I eat so I can keep smoking my beloved stogies). I do understand that it is 1/3 extra to the cost, and that's big no matter how much or little the cost is. Cheers mate. No sweat, just busting them back, and no mal-intent was perceived I was serious about my condolences about your prices down under, though. If those were my prices, I don't think I'd cut down, but it would give me pause and make me think I've got an extravagant pleasure, rather than just a reasonable expense for enjoying myself. Cheers Rick
El Presidente Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Smithy...I need a box of Upmann Magnum 46 to take away camping. HQ or PSP. Don't gouge me on price
El Presidente Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I think the risk for USA citizens is much higher, but that's just me. Price is not always the issue. Unfortunately for Aussies the tax rate is $409 a Kilo + GST of 10%. It is a killer. Czar prices for Aussie clients are wholesale or below. We do the best we can and hope that the fact you are purchasing the best boxes of cigars in Australia /planet makes up in part for the differential.
