danclough Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 Couple of questions about RE cigars. First, are they produced like the LE cigars with a limited lifetime, or once they introduce them are they produced on an ongoing basis? Second, of the PCC RE's out there, which one is the best for smoking right now and which is the best for aging a few years?
Colt45 Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 Dan, for the first part of your question, this may be a helpful link: Link And if you haven't already bookmarked Trevor's site, I definitely would. As to the second part, I can't really say.

Each RE has now a lifespan of 12 months. Minimum run is 25000 cigars. Enjoying the PL Robusto and the RA Estupendos. I think the PL Robusto is best now and the RA Estupendos and Punch Super Robusto the best to age with the most potential.
CBL Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 I also have a RE question... where are this years releases? I've been looking forward to finding a PL 898 cabinet in my local shop, but no luck yet
El Presidente Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 They come out AUG/SEPT/OCT each year. Should only be a few weeks longer

I'll have to check that one out. Thank you, Mr. President.

The PL Robustos are outstanding and really the only PCC RE's I would spend the extra scratch on. Rob has them on sale sometimes for a very decent price. The Punches are good, but need a few more years. Even then, not worth 400 a box. RA Estupendo's are better than the Punch Super robustos, but again, for the money I would just buy a box of Siglo VI's and be done with it.

I appreciate the input since I was eying the VI's and Estupendo's. That was going to be my follow-up in fact. At the price premium are the RE's worth it? Sounds like the PL's are...
Colt45 Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 At the price premium are the RE's worth it? Obviously, it's subjective and perspective. I view REs as nothing more than a size not normally found in the line. I don't expect them to be anything more than proper quality regular production. I understand that the regional distributors pay the freight on these, so I also understand a reasnoable mark up. But beyond that, I personally don't feel them worth an exorbitant premium (again, just personal opinion). It was nice to see the RACF was a bit more reasonably priced than previous offerings - thanks to our humble host and one of his colleagues
