JoshMP Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 *insert required newbie reviewer apology here* First thoughts: I'll preface this by saying I've never been a huge romeo julieta fan, their flavours don't really do it for me. That being said this is a gorgeous looking cigar; the wrapper is a lovely golden colour and the unlit aroma is fragrant of fresh hay and cream. So let's light this up! First third: There's a fresh sweetness to this cigar but unfortunately it is heavily masked by the metallic, ammonia flavour of a cigar that is just too young (box code OPM mar10) right now. Burn is perfect, razor sharp, and the initial draw a bit too loose which is advancing that ammonia taste. Second third: The ammonia has diminished a fair bit and it's starting to taste more like a cigar. It's really hard to pin point exactly what I'm tasting, there's a sweet lightness to this cigar but then there's also a cedar kick hanging around. It's floral and fruity but with a pleasant nuttiness. MRN got the flavours spot on. Final Third: Getting a bit too hot towards the end now and some bitterness is creeping in. This is my gripe with these jaw breaker cigars, you're overwhelmed with smoke volume and heat and, I find, miss out on the subtler flavours especially in the final quarter. I'm doing my best to draw less frequently and gentler but, with a few cm to go, I let this one die. Final Thoughts: It's a classic ryj and, for those that are in to the brand, it'll probably hit the nail on the head. I found myself enjoying that middle third and with three years or so age this is a cigar I could certainly sit down to.
dicko Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 thanks for the review mate! i like that fruit/cedar/tobacco flavour of ryJ (of the few i have tried) but this cigar is well down my list of cigars to try at this stage. thanks again!
