It could be argued that the true Partagas, Montecristo, etc. are / were the ones produced outside of Cuba. The rightful owners took their brands with them

when what belonged to them was taken away by the government.

It can be more than argued Ross, and you know it. Theft is a legitimate business practice of the Cuban government! I believe that Generals use of the Cohiba and the use of the Trinidad name are very much the same, but they did choose to register the name Cohiba in the States. This is why there are lawyers and courtrooms.

Lest we not forget that Mr. Castro in his loathing for imperialist capitalism abolished all the brands formally shortly after the revolution. Sound familiar? Soon after he realized that no one wanted or recognized the cigars without the "imperialist" brands and started using them again. Now that's how you run a country!

Ray, it's not my intent to involve myself in the politics - especially of a country's other than my own. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that

I feel it's misguided to get indignant over the use of the brand names when we consider all the facts.

It's a nasty business for sure, and Cuba doesn't hold a monopoly. This is, of course, simply my personal point of view.
