bolivr Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Hi folks, The letter attached below was in the Age today. Since it is Cuba we are talking about what is said here may not be official but it might pay to check if you are headed there. Myself, I am only dreaming of going there, not planning yet Hope its useful for FoH members.
El Presidente Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Yes, Came in earlier this year. I have an annual global Health insurance policy for travel but can understand why it can be missed particularly if you are coming from say Canada for a few days.

ajgagnon Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Ha! Not sure, but apparently, they're sick of footing the bill for medical treatment for those who can't afford it at home. On a trip to Cuba some years ago (say 2002), another Canadian at our hotel, and who was on our flight, rented a scooter and crashed it at night, banging up his head pretty well. He spent half his vacation in a hospital recuperating from minor bumps, bruises and a stinger of a concussion. No charge. Apparently, over the last few years a growing number of Americans and Mexicans had been engaging in 'medical tourism' to Cuba. For the trouble to us for getting a letter from our policy insurers, I can see both sides. One of the things that really pissed us off (because I had heard about this new policy and was prepared for it this spring on our last trip) was the fumigation on the airplane. Not sure if they do that to flights coming from other places (where can you fly to Cuba from when linking from Australia?), but we got a good dose of permethrin while in flight! They emptied two small cans of the aerosol spray at foot level along the aisles, despite my objections that my wife was pregnant on the plane. I was irate. To whom, exactly, does one send a letter for something like this??? Damn Upmann #2 keeps canoeing! Best, A
