whiteknight Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Howdy, I bought a box of 25 Upmanns that came in tubes (tubos) and I want to let these babies rest for a couple of years in my cabinet humidor before I break down and smoke them. Should I take them out of the tubes, replace them in the same box and leave the box closed in the humidor until I can't resist anymore? I have a few other boxes that are unopened, and I am storing and aging for the long term as well. Most of the advice from the cigar websites says you can leave cigars in their original boxes and keep them in your humidor under the proper environmental conditions (21 Deg C., 70% RH) for years without concern. I thought that if these sticks are out of their tubes, they would age better and benefit from being close to all the others in the same box. Any recommendations? Thanx, White Knight

SethLG Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I usually open the tubes for a day or two and then put them back on, but I know plenty who leave the tubes on all the time and then others who take them out. I inspect them though as well once I received them though.
bolivr Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 My method is to take all the cigars from their tubes and put them in a 75 count desk-top humi I keep in the fridgador for just this use. This limits purchases of tubos but that's ok. I put the tubes back in the original box without the caps on. The idea is that if I need to transport some of them they go back in tubes which have the cedar insert nicely at 65% RH. If I want to smoke one right there then it is ready to light up. Down the track I might put some back in tubes to slow aging down, maybe not, its just an option.
