Apparently the US has engaged Cuba as the North coast may be affected by the continuing oil slick pumping into the Gulf of Mexico.

I'm no greenie by any stretch of the imagination but this is dreadful - we should seriously be questioning the sanity of drilling at a depth where we have no conception of how to deal with a problem if it occurs.

There was a solution too the problem before it ever happened. The real problem is that they were too cheap to spend the money too cap the well off instead of packing it with mud

What a Fricken disaster. I may be a dumb sob but fail safe measures for this industry should be legislated and enforced and best practice plus.

the authorities should tear BP apart with crippling fines. another company will step in quick enough and they may at least realise that if they don't operate properly, same thing will happen. corporate officials should be jailed (of course, this is premature in that we are pre trial but on the assumption, that guilty verdicts will be brought down). and if there is any of the crap and dodging of responsibility tha we saw with exxon, they should also be shot.

you can imagine how much compensation cuba will receive.

Heartily agree.bp own the rig.Transocean own the drilling rig,and Haliburton(yes them again)were responsible for sealing the well.

An investigation is likely to conclude that there poor work is at fault for this.

With the other companies at fault for allowing it.

As with the financial collapse, toxic debt etc,the bosses should go to jail, spending 10 years being someones *****.....

What about Nigeria guys? I've thought and still think that the only reason this is getting so much attention is because it's in a developed country with a media platform that swings left.

Interesting read here:

Not sure I understand the point. The Nigerian Media can handle it and the fact it hasn't had the press (we haven't seen it covered here either) does not make the current Gulf situation any less telling.

When we had our own oil disaster three weeks ago there was the same press but the problem was minisule in comparison to what is going on currently in your neck of the woods.

Whether left or right people want it fixed, damage minimised, companies prosecuted and soultions in place so that it doesn't happen again. Regardless of where it is.
