El Presidente Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Just trying to get to the bottom of it ________________________________________________________________________________ __________ Cuba to present recombinant DNA anti-hemorrhoid drug http://news.xinhuanet.com/english2010/heal.../c_13282815.htm HAVANA, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Cuba will soon launch a new drug against hemorrhoids obtained by DNA techniques, local media reported on Friday. The recombined streptokinase suppositories, which are indicated for treating acute hemorrhoid attacks, will be ready for launch after going through clinical tests in several Cuban hospitals. According to the Cuban press, researchers at the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, who developed the drug, have already tested the drug's efficacy and safety. The drug named Heberkinasa is already patented in Vietnam, China, Mexico, South Africa, Canada and South Korea, among other nations, the Cuban press said. Obtained by DNA techniques, the drug can also be used for cases of acute myocardial infarction, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.
El Presidente Posted May 9, 2010 Author Posted May 9, 2010 I'm speechless. Edit: Video review? I must say I had a chuckle when I first read the article
jquest63 Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Interesting stuff, did not know that Cuba was conducting Biotech research. Wonder if the drug was submitted to the European authorities (EMEA) and if so was it rejected.

Wonder if the drug was submitted to the European authorities (EMEA) and if so was it rejected. Cuba consider themselves to be a leader in Biotech research. The only problem I have is that they tend to come out with a miraculous discovery/treatment/cure almost on a weekly level. I could be wrong but I suspect the heat of the unit is
jquest63 Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 LOL! US Big Pharma is coming up empty right now. Who knew that Biotech hotbed was Cuba.
ZinZan Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 I'm working in a Malaysian pharma company, and it is true their biotech research is extremely good maybe because its the embargo necessitates them being self sufficient. But in saying that their standards are low and they do not conform to FDA or EMEA standards and IP laws.
MIKA27 Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 I'm speechless. Edit: Video review? By that, do you mean to ask... Video review by Ken?!
