Been thinking of this thread for a while. What the heck. If you're a fan of a the fruity drink and have a favorite recipe please share it here. I'm a Margarita on the rocks with salt or sugar kind of guy personally.

I have had 2 memorable Margaritas in my life, the house Margarita at El Porton in North Little Rock Arkansas (I have these every time I'm out there) and "The Original Margarita" at Hussongs Cantina in Vegas. Both are very different but fantastic.

El Porton's Margarita is the sweet style (but not overly so), unsure of the recipe. The thing I like the most about this blend is the tequila is almost indetectable but incredibly powerful. One Margarita will push one well over the legal limit. Pure stealth power with a great balance of sweet, tequila and sour.

Hussongs Cantina Recipe, Authentic style (from what I understand). This is a Lime/Tequila bomb. Ya might even need an antacid after this one, it's tart while remaining light and refreshing nontheless. Here's Hussongs recipe:

* Salt, for rimming the glass (optional)

* Ice

* 1 1/2 ounces tequila (blanco, 100 percent agave)

* 1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice

* 1/2 ounce Cointreau (not Triple Sec)

When fresh lime juice is not an option in a pinch;

2 Parts Sweet & Sour (prefer Finest Call)

2 Parts Margarita Mix (prefer Finest Call)

2 Parts Tequila (Sauza Gold)

1 Part Grand Marnier

Over ice in a salt rimmed highball glass.

I work in marketing for a global spirits company, and we typically create a lot of the recipe innovations for tequila, vodka, bourbon, rum and cognac. One of the best margarita recipes, and easiest that I live by:

1 can of frozen concentrate limeade [12 oz]

Fill can to top with Plata tequila [about 375 ml]

One 12 oz bottle of corona

Don't laugh. This may seem ghetto, but it is the easiest margarita recipe if you don't have time, blender, access to fresh ingredients, and it tastes amazing. Moreover, it is all equal parts to it is impossible to mess up. Makes about 6 servings. Just keep doubling to create more.

Let me know if anyone needs any more recipe solutions.

I've always stuck with the 3 units tequila, 1.5 units orange liqueur (more on this), and 1 unit fresh lime juice. It's stiff, but damn tasty. Re: the orange - I've switched to Grand Manier. I know - controversial, but it adds a nice round depth.

If I don't have fresh limes, I drink a martini.

I love the Margaritas at Hussong's, especially during happy hour (2 for 1).

A couple of takes on the original recipe you listed below:

* Salt, for rimming the glass (optional)

* Ice

* 1 1/2 ounces tequila (blanco, 100 percent agave)

* 1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice

* 1/2 ounce Cointreau (not Triple Sec)

Ether..

Instead of Cointreau, you can substitute Blue Curacao. Just looks cool and makes the ladies giggle.

Or substitute Damiana liqueur for the Cointreau. Allegedly, the first margarita was made with Damiana. I've personally never tried this.

If your using pre-mixes, I agree Finest Call makes better than average mixes.

This is true. When we were young men, my friends and I would go camp and surf Baja California and would go drinking at the origional Hussongs in Ensenada, Mexico. Cinco De Mayo..... OY! What stories I could tell!

Damiana Guaycura is a herbal liquor from the 'baja' and is a traditional wedding gift, as they believe it is an aphrodisiac. Comes in a glass bottle shaped like a pregnant woman LOL. Nastiest hangover EVER if you drink too much!!

I'm another one who on a regular basis uses limeade. I'd prefer to juice limes, but it's not very practical in my neck of the woods. You can make

the limeade to taste. I use different tequilas depending on current mood, but I guess my overall fave would be Sauza Hornitos (reposado). I also

use Grand Marnier. I mix to personal preference, rocks no salt.
