Pick of my cigars this week.

I have just polished off a nice Dip 4 this Friday Afternoon which came on the back of a Partagas Presidente at midday as I was driving round. Not too dissimilar in flavour profile with the Partagas being fuller in body.

Others this week were Cohiba Robusto, Cuaba Salomones, Partagas Serie De Connoisseur No 1...2...and 3 as well as a Partagas Cab Corona, Monte D LE, Partagas D4, Trini Fundadores and LGC Tainos and LGC Medaille D'or No 1.

The two favourites were the Partagas Corona Cab (Sweet Spice...excellent cigar) and the LGC Medaille D'Or No 1.....just orange peel notes throughout.

Grate citrus in the 02 LGG Med D #4 from you. Cant get enough

This week I had a LGC Med No 1, Trini Reyes, Ramon Allones Specially Selected, Dip 4 and a Juan Lopez No 1.

Standouts being the RASS and a tie between the Dip 4 and Juan Lopez. Hell I loved them all actually. All were fantastic and different from each other. The LGC was the only one that had me confused. First half, not much smoke volume and muted citrus and wood. At the halfway mark the LGC opened up very nicely. Lots of thick smoke and citrus. Good cigar week.

Had sort of a busy week. The stand outs were:

2001 RASS, Dear God, I wish that all RASS tasted like this! Rich tobacco, earthy, mixed in a fruitiness almost raisins taste, balanced and full bodied. Sort of hard to describe, but absolutely wonderful.

2004 Cohiba Siglo IV that was pure honey sweetness with layers of coffee bean, I burnt my fingers taking it down to the nub.

Ramon Allones Belicoso, these cigars need to become available worldwide because they are great! I truly believe that they would match and maybe even surpass my love affair with the BBF. Complex, and flavors dancing on my palate. Rob, Please tell you friends, to hook you up, and that England has had them long enough, its your turn with these bad boys!

Partagas Serie P No.2, what can I say, I'm a Partagas *****! Simply the Best!

Only a Partags P2 and a V.R. Jubliam for me this week. Both were excellent in their own right

Mid week, had a le Hoyo du Depute. Nice full, spicy smoke. Last night, I picked out a HU Mag 46. Down to just a few of these and this box has been spectacular. I will soon be missing them.

I smoked a Ramses Piramide yesterday arvo. It was a completely different experience smoking something straight off the rolling table, but I absolutely loved it. Being so wet, the draw was a bit loose, but it didn't get hot until near the end - which took about 2 1/2 hours. I smoked it in the Westin, which is an awesome place to smoke, but I wish the drinks were less expensive ($9 beers). I got a really pleasant wet tobacco taste, with maybe a little nutty taste thrown in as well. I really want to get back and get two more to put in the 'dor for a week or two to dry out, but I'm too hung over and tired to make it back into the city :-(

Had a Monte # 4 on Friday night which was just superb. Sometimes we tend to forget or overlook good standard cigars, & this monte was just fantastic.

Chocolate, spice & a few other bits & pieces kept coming through ,all the while keeping the monte smoothness.

Might have to restock on these, they are just a great little smoke.

Had a nice VR Familiar with habanablue on Saturday night, bit more strength than the Monte#4 but still very smooth & nice way to finish a great glass of shiraz from the Hunter.

Also had a monte 4 on Tuesday night that has been ageing in the humi for a couple of years. Quite good but was a little tight on the draw. Took some advice from forum members and had a Partagas Short on Friday night. Got to say was a little disappointed. It burnt erratically and kept going out. Will have to get another to see if this is an ongoing problem.

bummer about the party short. i had a stubborn "don't wanna stay lit" one in vegas last weekend. fortunately, piggy came to hte rescue with LGC taino.

had a party short last night that restored my confidence in them.

Been smoking a lot of 01 Cohiba CE's, robustos, and Siglo I's the past week. No complaints from me. All are perfect.

My stand out this week was smoking out on the deck while watching football (American style) with an old time cigar smoking buddy. We had pulled out the first two cigars from a SLB of 04 BBF's. He had never had a BBF before and to watch him as we both smoked and watched football doing double and triple checks on the cigar... he kept looking down on it and then finally he said "This is really f-n good. What is this?" That's the kind of joy that only comes once in a friendship... I said "It's a Bolivar Belicoso Fino. Pretty f-n good huhn?" :-D

No contest for my standout cigar this weekend: '98 Upmann SW.

Just a complex stellar smoke the whole way. Only thing is that it tasted like it was still a bit yooung. A few more years and these will be mind boggling.

Sigh.

Some of us live in apartments without terraces/gardens/roof access. I'm lucky to get to three cigars a month as the weather turns cold, since I refuse to smoke inside the apartment (I kind of like being married). Which means that whatever I buy tends to age before I smoke it, so at least there's upside.

We have a pact though - starting next week, we'll go walking in Central Park on Sundays, the ones where the 1:00 NFL game is boring, and I can enjoy a cigar or two without complaint.

Next up: probably my sole Punch Punch, though I might keep him for when the kitchen is finally finished.

With summer fast approaching here in Oz and just made the move back to the country I am looking forward to enjoying a few more cigars than I used to when I was living in the city. :-)
