  1. Everybody should have the freedom to eat whatever they like up to the point where my tax money goes towards their healthcare. Obese people have significantly higher healcare costs than people of average weight or lower.
  2. Haha no worries. This is a subject that really interests me and I spend a lot of time reading studies about exercise, nutrition and the rising obesity levels in society. I saw your post and thought I should weigh in because it is a really interesting and potentially controversial topic.
  3. There is nothing wrong with eating sugar as long as you intake less calories than you expend. The proplem is that people are uneducated on the subject and the calorie density of most junk food (like sugary drinks and lollies) allows people to consume up to ten times what they should be eating daily in one sitting. Sugar also promotes a very strong insulin response which can cause other problems. There is nothing wrong with eating fat. In fact, a diet deficient in saturated fat can lower testosterone levels in males causing a more 'feminine' distribution of body fat (eg hips, moobs etc).
  4. Unfortunately, you don't get medals for being good Ambassadors for Australia - you get them for swimming bloody quickly. I'm sure Swimming Australia wishes that there were faster blokes to send to the olympics, but there aren't.
  5. Nothing to do with the gun thing really. These guys are just scumbags. There are always people like that in society... unfortunately these two turned out to be good at swimming.
  6. I've only had one and it was the worst cigar I have ever smoked. I bought it from a local tobacconist and he had correct humidity (65%) and temp (about 20C). I'm fairly sure it was real because half way through smoking it I gave up and pulled it apart. There was nothing funny looking inside, no loose/shredded tobacco or anything like that. Plus I've bought sticks from this bloke before which were all fine. The flavour was like burning rubber: acrid, harsh, acidic. I would be tempted to try one again (from the Czar of course) if I could justify spending money on a single that I wasn't sure I would enjoy. I might trade for one at some point just to see if my experience was a one-off.
  7. All true. What really stood out was QLD's defence. NSW consistantly made more ground but couldn't convert their opportunities into points.
  8. The fact that there have been bad decisions in the past doesn't mean bad decisions now are excusable. I can see why the send-off is justified (even if it is unusual) because he did run in and throw a punch but the iffy try came at a time when NSW were on the attack and had a lot of momentum their way. It also happened when there was no time for NSW to respond. That's what makes it bad. Union is a much better game anyway
  9. Game was ruined by those two calls. QLD may have still won but we'll never really know. Disgraceful.
  10. That was probably the worst series of decisions I've ever seen in professional sport. The commentators were speechless at the send off and actively disagreed with the try award.
  11. Awesome! SL is a great program. I'm suprised and impressed by how many people in this thread know what they are talking about. I would have thought there was less crossover between cigar smoking and strength training. I think thats a fair call for most people. If I have a workout to do though, it gets done. I'd say i've missed less than 5 in the last year. I couldn't work effectively 6 days a week - I need the recovery time. Deadlifts and C&J both fry my CNS totally for the next 24 hours.
  12. Does that include a few lighter sets or is that 5 working sets? Looks good either way! Have you tried throwing some simple carbs in immediately post workout with your protein? I spent a while eating just meat and veggies but a friend convinced me to eat carbs after working out and I now recover far quicker (has something to do with glycogen replenishment). Give it a try!
  13. Dicko definitely has the right idea. Everybody who is serious about weight loss or training should be doing a compound barbell routine consisting of 3x5 barbell squats, bench press and standing overhead press and 1x5 deadlifts. If anybody is interested I would recommend reading the eBook Starting Strength. Using this method I dropped from 25% body fat to 12% whilst gaining loads of muscle (bench went from 50kg to 122.5kg). This method is what fellow cigar enthusiast Arnold used when he was young. With all that said, for guys just looking to get their heart rate up and drop a bit of fat from around the middle then doing an endurance program like p90x is perfectly good - just don't expect muscle gain! Good job everyone - hope that my advice is useful to somebody!
