mkz Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Montecristo No:4 BOL OCT 06 Prelight taste: Hay. Draw: Perfect 1:3 Opens up with dark roasted coffe and bread. Strong start but not overwhealming. Dry tobacco, smoother on the edges than it was the last time I smoked one from this box in about six months ago. Beautiful bonewhite ash with an straight burn. A bit into the first third its suddenly getting sweeter. Round sweetnes, raisin and brown sugar I think. 2:3 Dry sweet tobacco remains but is now accompanied by some dark bread and nuts. Burn is a little bit off but its not an issue so far. Halfway through and im surpised over how sweet and smooth this smoke is turning out. A mild taste that I usually dont associate with this marca. 3:3 Sweetnes continues and actually nothing else. Is this an Montecristo? The band says so but the taste something else... A good friend of mine calls and I take this as an excuse to put this candystick down for good. Conclusion: Except for the beginning, which was very promising, I would never guess this to be an MC4 in a blind tasting. To sweet and no power... I am dissapointed! I´ll have to check back on these soon... 80/100 Dio kept me company during the smoke...
Habanos2000 Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 It looks like this wasn't the first smoke from this box. Did you have similar experiences with the others being as sweet? I also found the white ash pretty interesting. I experienced that color of ash with NC's, but pretty much all the CC's I smoke are shades of grey. Just wondering if that might be contributing to the sweetness? Nice review, and throw Dio a bone from me. I too enjoy smoking cigars with my dog standing by.
mkz Posted July 15, 2009 Author Posted July 15, 2009 It looks like this wasn't the first smoke from this box. Did you have similar experiences with the others being as sweet? This is actually the first total dissapointment from this box. The earlier ones showed nothing of this sweetness so I´m guessing this was either a temporary dud or maybe it was just the wrong cigar on the wrong day. I´ll make shure to revisit this box A.S.A.P.
