It's my last day standing as Officer of the Day on my ship, so I thought I'd postpone the Corona testing a little further and dig into the humi for a cigar I've had for a couple of years and havn't yet tried an example of before...

A Cohiba Siglo VI

I've had it since 2007, unsure of the box date as it came as part of a sampler.

Wrapper - Claro, very light tan....even a touch of slight green near the wrapper

General appearance - Actually..probably the ugliest Cohiba I have. The wrapper has blemishes that make me wonder why it was chosen for a Cohiba. No sheen or silkyness. The cap was expertly placed, however.

Initial draw - Strong. Coffee hints.

First Puffs - lots of Tobacco, some cedarwood but on the whole just a strong tobacco taste

First 1/3 - The initial strength tapers off, as the coffee taste returns a little. Smooth.

Middle 1/3 - Strength is now medium, and the coffee fades away, replaced by oak overtones.

Final 1/3 - Now we're cooking! The tobacco taste from the start comes back huge, as it grows in strength to a full bodied smoke. All I can taste is tobacco now. Smoothness remains, really the only thing keeping me in this past the band!

Overall - This was a strong smoke on the whole. It dipped a little but came right back and didn't let go. Hints of coffee and something else I can't place (vanilla?) tempted me but never really manifested themselves. All that really sticks with me for this stick was the strong tobacco overtones.

Burn/Construction - the Burn was uneven at times but corrected itself. The lousy wrapper kind of ruined my opinion of the construction though.

Rating - 87/100

I Will definitely try one of these again, as it did intrigue me enough to be curious - but this stick wasn't a real winner. Siglo VI will get another chance! I almost feel like it could have been fake, but the sampler was from a trusted source, so I doubt that's the case.

Thanks for the review. I've also had a few boxes of 07 and 08 Siglo VI's that's muted, dull and less than stellar. Am away on trip thus no box codes on hand. Have had STELLAR 06s and it's that experience that keeps me from throwing those few boxes into my fireplace! They are in deep storage now. All boxes are from trusted source including one from our own here.

Hopefully they will turn around.
