Thanks to a great BOTL I was able to sit down and sample an 02 La Punta. This cigar was very good looking and gets high marks for appearance and construction. The draw on clip was a touch loose, big ring so.

Nice Colorado wrapper with pre light aromas and flavors were mild tobacco and a faint hint of semi sweet bakers chocolate. The burn and smoke characteristics of this cigar were very good and remained consitent througout the smoke. Consistent... as did the flavors. And that is it! There was a day when the big smoke and "good" flavors would have been enough.

The La Punta never put out more than I got in the first third. The leather disappeard almost immediately and the hint of semi sweet chocolate or milk coffee never got cooking and were masked. There was a serious lack of complexity to keep me involved other than the beefy smoke rings the big ring is good for.

I wanted to love this cigar.

Thanks for the review Glenn. These are a change of pace cigar for me, and I find the 02s rather meaty, full body and interesting. I recall thinking mesquite, and definitely not floral or sweet. I agree there isn't a lot of change, and I'd pick a La Fuerza of similar generation first, but I like the La Punta.
