CigarmanTim Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 First off let me say I am not much of a reviewer. I don't have the palet some of you more experienced members have. I don't taste stone fruit (not even sure what that is), milk coffee nor white pepper. I taste pepper, woodiness, cedar and leather. Hopefully I will get there some day. I matched this Boli GM PBS ENE 08 with a Meridian Cab 2006 Californian. Of the 20 to 30 BGM's I've smoked this one unfortunately was forgetable. The draw was spot on yet drew little smoke. I had to over draw to get much out of it and I paid for that at the end. It was only an 08 but I've had much better out of that box. It started out with a muted pepper taste that never varied. Very one dimensional. The ash was very flakey but held on to about 2.5 inches. The wine was a nice dry which should have complimented this cigar perfectly. Instead it showed it up. The Boli never changed from it's original pepper taste except to step up to a harsh pepper at the end due to my over drawing. I was very happy to put it out, cleanse my pallet and fire up a PSD4. I've had too many great GM's to let this one taint me. It was very young. My bad.
terrantheman Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 I hate when that happens with my smoke i.e. nice draw but no smoke... I find there is some tunneling going on and it burns hot which then tends to get bitter, total bummer.
bolivr Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Thanks for the review Tim , but what a disappointment that GM turned out to be. I have a Feb 07 box but sampled 2 only. They are not overwhelming and I hope they improve. Best that can be is that yours was a one-off from the box and the rest will be ok.
Habanos2000 Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 The only thing I can say about underwhelming smokes is that they make the good ones even better.
El Presidente Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Thank you for an excellent review. The BGM from 08 aare predominantly (in my eyes) quality straight tobacco at this time. I think they have some legs to become something good to very good....but it wil take a little time.
