semery74 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 What are the chance you get two boxes in a row that have beetle damage? I've never come across the bloody creatures before, and two uninspected boxes trail each other. The second box was a vendor replacement, that they politely agreed to replace no questions asked. Prez, any possiblity you can provide us statistics of how many you come across during inspection each day or week?
stargazer14 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 1975 seems to be a good year for the beetle Jimmy...
semery74 Posted April 2, 2009 Author Posted April 2, 2009 Last year. TPG SEP '08 Fseca No.1 Awesome creamy mild dark chocolate notes, wrappers must be from Robaina's Vega, just very reminsence of a Famosa.
aavkk Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 apparently Fonseca's didnt make the cut to get fumigated. I'm sure its very rare and about the same probability of being dealt AA 3 hands in a row.
El Presidente Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 apparently Fonseca's didnt make the cut to get fumigated. I'm sure its very rare and about the same probability of being dealt AA 3 hands in a row. We rarely see it these days. The team always shows me when a box comes in with beetle damage so if I were to take a guess...1/750-1000. There are really only a few possibilities: 1. The box was not frozen properly at the warehouse. 2. The box was in contact in a warehouse with stock not frozen. Beetles like to travel. Out of interest were there any "Live Beetles?" in the box. If there were none, they may have hatched pre preezing.

It was interesting to see and disect. Any idea how fast beetles could munch through a box? I audit my cellar every several weeks to inspect and to count. But have often wondered if an infestation occurs between those times how much damage would ensue.
Jay Hemingway Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 had a beetle problem once. it came from a fonseca No.1 as well. i pulled off the paper to smoke one and i noticed a hole that a beetle burrowed out from. i found him 3 cigars down making his way into a custom roll from the partagas factory. why he skipped over the others beats me. anyway, i chucked that custom roll, froze all of my sticks (all singles in a desktop) and never seen one again. i was lucky i caught the bastard!

It is more than likely the beetles hatched pre freezing. They can reduce a box to dust (under the right conditions) in a couple of months.
