no3putts Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Hey folks, Was wondering if you've had the opportunity to try both the Connie #1 and the Mag 46, if they are comparable smokes or if you tend to favor one over the other. I of course realize they are different sizes, but I'm wondering more about the flavor profile/depth and whether one would be considered milder/stronger than the other. I'm looking to pick up a box, mostly for younger smoking...I'm not to the stage yet that I'll be putting these away for a few years or so. Any thoughts appreciated!
Jimmy2 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 The 08 Mag 46 at least the couple i sampled were smoking really really good (med to full with rich tobacco flavor with some sweetness mixed in) with as little a month nap time . The Mag 46 i think have made a comeback from lack luster years 05/06 and most of 07 which to me were very bland with no power. The Connie 1 was i think a late 06 also was excellant very strong was surprised as i had some boxes from 05 that were very boring. Also smoked a 07 that was strong and very rich in flavor classic Upman at its finest. Most 07/08 are smoking great fresh out of the box these day's as to positive changes Cuba has made. The old way of thinking you have to age a Cuban cigar to enjoy it is pure fariy tale with present day Cuban cigars. Maybe you should get half of each so you can have the best of both worlds..
no3putts Posted February 28, 2009 Author Posted February 28, 2009 Jimmy, Thanks for the adivce, really appreciate it. I was dabbling with chopping the boxes...just haven't decided yet. Lanthor Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Think I would echo Jimmy, the box of 07 connies I have are very, very good. Had a box of 07 46's that were as good, problem was half the cigars were plugged. The 08's 46's I have tried are good and remind me a lot of the Mag 50's. I am an Upmann ***** so I don't think you could go wrong with either, if pressed to choose I would go connie, very underated and typically overlooked, great value as well. Now if you got one of both, THEN you truelly would be having the best of both worlds.
