US Stimulus (economic type)

So what do you want for this country. All of us think the same as the Republican party. You know I as I do the the Republican party and Democratic party will never be on the same page. Right now bro our country is in a ****ed up situation. Here in California and the rest of the country people are losing there jobs and houses.You know it its affecting every one. We need to stop all this bickering and blame this person and that person. I voted for Obama and am proud of it. The last fews years was disatrous man. The war in Iraq and the whole mortage situation is just a shame. Iraq was bad, we lost lots of good men and woman in Iraq when we had major problems in our own country. Afghanistan is where we need to fight the terrorists. All in all brothers we need to move foward work in unity to get our great nation back on track.

In a narrow sense, yes, it will work in the short run. The stimulus bill will indeed stimulate the economy. I have read its estimated impact at 2% to 3% of GDP over two years. In the long run, its impact is more difficult to estimate. Higher taxes, higher interest rates might reduce GDP growth from what it could have been otherwise.

In a broader sense, the stimulus bill will not get the US economy back on a self-sustaining growth path all by itself.

Hard work by Americans, restructuring the financial sector and stabilizing the housing market will eventually get the economy going again. But these things take time. You cannot turn a US$13 trillion economy on a dime (no pun intended ).

In the meantime, since Americans have cut on their spending (private consumption is about 70% of the US GDP), it makes sense for the Government to offset some of that contraction by spending more and taxing less. I am afraid otherwise even more jobs would be lost.

I am sorry for all of you who lost their jobs. I hope you will get back to work quickly.
