drdna Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Color: colorado-claro Aroma before lighting: cocoa powder, cinnamon stick, autumn leaves, mulch Taste before lighting: light flavor, slightly salty, tobacco leaf Draw: medium Construction: excellent Taste: Sharp flavors of white pepper and nicotine punctuate an underlying complexion that is at once, mellow, creamy and leafy. Flavors of oatmeal and hard winter wheat are well integrated in a heavy background highlighted by Hawaiian black salt, iodine, and straightforward Cuban tobacco leaf. Comparisons: modern H. Upmann blends, pre-hurricane Jamaican tobacco, and reminiscent of the old Davidoffs but of course lacking the elegance. Impressions: typical of the La Gloria Cubana line, flavors that have remained consistent over the years. Bottom Line: La Gloria Cubana remains an excellent but underrated choice as a light-bodied cigar with a complex range of flavors. Lacking the complexity to be a truly reflective cigar, the blend is still quite enjoyable. The lack of subtlety saves the cigar from being boring, but it is not quite rich enough to be medium bodied or truly engaging. An excellent cigar for beginners or those preferring a mild smoke. Recommendations: A good choice for the early morning, pairs well with tea.
