trumpetchris Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 Pulled out a Cohiba Robusto from April 07 (don't have the exact box code) for the required Cohiba reviews;-) Initial construction was mostly flawless, with some small water spots on the wrapper. Cut beautifully with my trusty Palio, lit easily with my Xikar lighter. First 3rd had a grassy flavor with a fairly short finish. Nothing spectacular at this point, but a well built, even burning smoke. Middle 3rd some more core tobacco flavors with some slight sweetness arrived. This cigar seems like it wants to really open up to something spectacular, but at this age it can't seem to figure out what to do yet. Final 3rd some harshness begins to appear. I'm enjoying this cigar, but not as much as I think I will in another year or so. Luckily, I have five more! Overall Impressions of this cigar are good. There are some nice flavors in there, but at this point there is not clarity in the flavors, and the harshness tends to begin a little too soon- right when it seems it's about to get really good. Final score would be an 86/100. The construction was exquisite, but some flavors were muted at this date.
aavkk Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 I know what you mean Chris and thanks for the review. I have a box of Aug 07's and the first few I had were enjoyable but obviously young. I'll plan on smoking one every 3 months or so to see how they are coming along.
SmokinAl Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 Hi Chris, your observations parallel mine of the CoRo I smoked a week or two ago from 07. It was very grassy and didn't offer a lot in the way of depth. My concern with the box I have is that the flavour will improve but they will lose strength/depth along with it. Let's hope not. Cheers,
El Presidente Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 Excellent review and so far you ar the only review so you are a shoe in for the Esplendido prize :-D Young tobacco....all the potential...all the questions....what will 12-24-36 months bring? If only we knew the answer.
