Looking for other opinions . How often do you open up each box and check for mold, bugs or other signs of problems when storage conditions are near perfect ?

I really only open boxes to remove a cigar for smoking. I will from time to time open one to get

a whiff of that thick juicy smell.

I can't say I have ever gone on a bug or mold search but usually twice a year I go through my stock to see and smell everything. I have a relatively small collection (~900 cigars)

I got too many boxes to inspect them all. I'll open one up when I'm pulling a cigar from it, and that's about it. Best I can do is to have faith that by keeping the environment at 65/65, the cigars will take care of themselves.

When I am in the dog house t home I always appear to have the need for an urgent stocktake and stock inspection at the Czar House humidor which I have been putting off.

I normally sit on the deck, have a cigar and read the paper.

For peace of mind, I inspect mine when I receive them, a month or two after that and then every quarter or two. It's also a good way to reorganize and figure out how to fit more boxes into the ole Aristocrat end table. :-D

Not trying to hijack the the thread but, does anyone have a timeline from when the first beetle hatches till the entire box is destroyed?

I don't have boxes but, a lot of loose sticks in the humidor and I give my sticks a once over whenever I reorganize or have to dig through the humi to retrieve a smoke.

Never, I inspect and freeze everything upon receivement and then they goes into zip-lock bags and are stashed away...not to be touched for years...

As I can't achieve 65/65 at the moment; today's readings 79/67, I rotate and inspect regularly. I dread the beetle.

Put "Tobacco Beetle" into Wikipedia search for some info.

This paper is interesting and gives hope for a beetle-free storage.

I usually do a quick inspection when I refill my humidification system,

which seems to be about every 3 months.

Luckily I have never found any cigar maladies.

I inspect when I pull a cigar out of that box. And for cigars set aside for aging, it's ever 3-6 months.
