Spanish Cedar is not from Spain but from Brazil and other South American Countries, and is also called South American Cedar and sometimes Cigar Box Cedar. Cam, in Australia, spanish cedar is sold under the South American Cedar name. BTW Mahogany is not the same as Spanish Cedar, but somewhat similar & has been used for humidors, but not all Mahoganys are suitable.
Trevor2118 Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Best humidor info site: [link]http://www.humidor-guide.com/humidor-spanish-cedar-1-1.php3[/link] They discuss the three types used: Spanish cedar (by far the most popular) - Cedrela odorata American (or Canadian) red cedar - Thuja plicata Honduran mahogany - Swietenia macrophylla Scientific names added.
VigorishSLC Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 I made multiple shelves for my wine chillers out of spanish cedar i found here: [link=http://www.internetlumber.com/lumber-products/Humidor-Lining-4-sqft]Internet Lumber[/link] All I had to do was cut it to shape; it's the perfect thickness for shelves and lining. Good luck!
