Could I get some GENERAL input on the purchase of discontinued cigars and releases on the "second-hand" market.

I am thinking of relatively recent releases similar to SAY the 1999 Cohiba Millennium Jars. It is not an old release, not rare (10,000 made), & I presume not overly expensive (at the time).

What experiences have members had (success & failures) and where (in general terms) should one look (or not look...........I think we can rule out eBay...:-D ).

If by second hand you mean "Private stash" then it is worthwhile getting in touch with Cigar stores that hold private lockers. Often you will find that there is a healthy trade of cigars going on between members and private members who offload some stock to the retailer to "re-sell". Few bargains however unless the seller "needs" to offload stock quickly.

Outside of that several boards have "Trading sections" where members sell or swap cigars. The old rule of "buy the seller" applies here.

My poor choice of words. I was thinking of auctions, specialist dealers etc rather than individuals. At least with individuals on a forum one can probably gauge some measure of the person by his posts.....but auctions you have absolutely nothing to go by. A specialist one can try once and see....but could be an expensive trial & error method.

Again I am only asking in general terms to access if one should even entertain this? I have never purchased anything other than current retail.
